What to wear for Santa photos

Over the last 2 years of Santa sessions offered by O Studios we have been observing most and least successful clothing choices, colors that work particularly well, and those that really don’t.  You asked for a guide on how to dress for this year’s Santa photos, so here it is!

Our general recommendation is sticking with neutral and holiday tones: white, cream, gold, burgundy, red, pine green. This year, as we add a neutral set for that classic family portrait (in addition to your festive holiday photos), we predict that black, charcoal grey and beige will work too.  Plenty to choose from!

As with our regular family sessions, we always suggest keeping things simple: focusing on 1-2 complimentary colors, as well as texture. Lay out all items of clothing together and check that the overall combination is pleasing to the eye. Add accessories if you need to spice things up (a fun pocket square for dad, little bow tie for your son or necklace for Mum might be enough without diverting attention).

Please consider that pale hues, half-tones, and pastel shades don’t  work with bright vibrant holiday backgrounds. Christmas is the perfect time to embrace those bold colors. Glam it up, dress to impress! You won’t be disappointed.

  • Leah Deery - Hi,
I ordered my 6 month old this little onesie from next for his photo shoot with santa (ordered before i seen your list) , just wondering is it appropriate? Or do you think I should dress him in something more smart, like shorts and bow tie?

    • Emilia Gray - Hi Leah,
I checked out the link you sent. That onesie is absolutely adorable, great choice! Toddlers look awesome in something a bit more smart for their holiday pictures, but what you picked is perfect for a baby. Well done! Looking forward to meeting you and your little one in a couple of week.ReplyCancel
